Marine Reptile and Marine Bird Medicine: Specialize & Stand Out

This Higher Postgraduate Certificate (HPC) in Marine Reptile and Marine Bird Medicine is a higher aims to respond to the demand for veterinarians who specialize in this area, as the physiology of these animals differs significantly from that of terrestrial animals, requiring specific care management. Furthermore, concern for the conservation of endangered aquatic species emphasizes the need for experts who can diagnose and treat diseases and contribute to research, rehabilitation and conservation.

The HPC in Marine Reptile and Marine Bird Medicine will be delivered online, allowing students to access up-to-date and quality content from anywhere in the world. CEU UCH and the Oceanogràfic de València have come together to make this Higher Postgraduate Certificate in Medicine in Marine Reptiles and Marine Birds possible.

Oceanografic

The Oceanogràfic de València is located within the City of Arts and Sciences complex. The aquarium, which opened in 2003, is the largest aquarium in Europe and a leading institution in the field of marine biodiversity conservation and outreach activities. Its facilities are home to more than 27,000 species of 700 species, many of them rare, and it seeks to represent the world’s major aquatic ecosystems for visitors.

The aquarium has a fully equipped veterinary clinic, laboratories and first-class medical facilities, enabling it to run specialized training programmes. Thanks to this infrastructure, the Oceanogràfic de València possesses the right professionals, animals and environment for the study of marine reptiles and marine birds and for the provision of high-quality training in the care of these animals.

    Veterinarian specializing in marine mammals, with over 20 years of experience in clinical care, research, rescue, and rehabilitation. Former Director of the Marine Mammal Center in California and co-founder of Sea Change Health. Author of 53 research articles on marine wildlife health.
  • Dr. Claire Simeone
    Marine mammal veterinarian and graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Led research on mortality events and was director of the monk seal conservation programme in Hawaii. Founder of Sea Change Health and TED Fellow 2018. Author of 25 scientific publications.
  • Dr Daniel García Párraga
    Coordinator of the Scientific Committee at Fundación Oceanogràfic and Director of Zoological Operations at AVANQUA. European diplomate in zoo animal medicine and aquatic animal health. Author of over 170 scientific articles.
  • Dr José Luis Crespo
    Veterinary Medicine graduate specializing in marine turtle pathology. Veterinarian responsible for the Conservation Area at Fundación Oceanogràfic. Author of over 90 research articles.
  • Dr. Marta Muñoz Baquero
    Veterinary Medicine graduate with Master's in Aquaculture and PhD specializing in shark reproduction. Associate lecturer at CEU UCH's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and veterinary expert at Fundación Oceanogràfic Conservation Department. Author of more than 10 research articles.
  • Dr Carlos Barros García
    Assistant director of the zoological collection and curator of birds and reptiles at Avanqua Oceanogràfic. Specialist in exotic and aquatic animal medicine and zoo animal management. Member of EAZA inspection committee.
  • Dr Andreas Fahlman
    Graduate in Marine Sciences from Hawaii Pacific University with PhD in Animal Physiology. One of the leading specialists in diving physiology in marine mammals. Author of more than 60 research articles.
  • Dr Carlos Rojo Solís
    Veterinarian at Oceanogràfic de Valencia since 2018. Pursuing PhD in pharmacology in birds. Member of EAZWV, AAZV, and EAZA inspector.
