Deportes

On our three campuses in Castellón, Alfara del Patriarca y Elche we offer a wide variety of sporting activities for everyone, whatever your preferences and ability levels and whether you want to compete against others or just enjoy doing physical exercise.

You can take part in:

  • Instructor-led activities: GAP (legs, bums and tums), toning, cross-training pilates, cardioboxing, flexbility, HYROX, and dance
  • Internal competitions: 7-a-side football, futsal, 3x3 basketball, tennis, padel, table tennis, and many more
  • Interuniversity sporting competitions: You can compete against students from the Universidad Europea and Universidad Católica de Valencia on our Valencia Campus. On the Elche Campus, you can compete against students from the Universidad de Alicante and the Universidad Miguel Hernández.
  • Excursions: hiking, skiing, rafting, climbing, etc
  • Official competitions, both regional and national competitions (Competición Autonómica de Deporte Universitario (CADU) and Campeonatos de España Universitarios)
  • Sporting events and activities organized with local clubs and associations.

Students at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University have a wide range of sporting facilities available to them. You can train on your own, with other students or take part in instructor-led activities. The facilities have been designed to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle for the whole university community.

The facilities include an indoor and outdoor gym, pitches and courts, green space, and training rooms.

Fundación Trinidad Alfonso

The Fundación Trinidad Alfonso has signed agreements with all the universities in the Valencia region, including CEU UCH, in order to promote sporting activity across the region.

This agreement aims to:

  • Foster and support initiatives related to university sport across the Valencia region.
  • Promote university sport in all areas.
  • Highlight the importance of balancing participation in sport with educational commitments.
  • Promote a work ethic, one of the goals of the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso seeks to promote.

Team events at regional university championships (CADU)

CEU UCH students can take part in team sports at the official regional championships, known as CADU (Campeonato Autonómico de Deporte Universitario). Students from all eight universities in the Valencia region can take part.

CEU UCH enters teams in the following sections:

  • Rugby (men's team)
  • Tennis (men's, women's and mixed doubles)

As a part of a CEU UCH team, you can compete, meet great people from other degrees and experience sport as it's meant to be. Individual events at regional university Championships (CADU)

Do you like to compete on your own, set your own goals and give everything in a sport you love? Then take part in a CADU individual event.

There are a wide range of events in which students from any university in the Valencia region can compete on an individual basis throughout the academic year. If you perform well, you may go on to represent the university in the national championships, the Campeonato de España Universitario.

Events you can compete in:

The Sports Service will handle the administrative side: registrations, kit, transport, certificates of absence from academic activities, and everything you need to take part.

If you want to compete, progress and represent your university on the big stage, the individual CADU events are a great way to do it.

Deportes CADU individual

National University Championships (CEU)

The national university championships in Spain are known as the Campeonato de España Universitario (CEU). Organized by the national sports council, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), these championships bring together student athletes from across Spain to compete in a wide variety of sporting events.

How can you take part?

To represent CEU UCH at these championships, you must qualify via participation in a relevant individual or team CADU event. You must also fulfil the requirements set by the CEU Cardenal Herrera University's Sports Service.

Events

  • Team sports: Basketball, handball, football, futsal, rugby sevens, volleyball and sailing.
  • Individual sports: athletics, badminton, cross country, mountain running, golf, weightlifting, horse-riding, karate, swimming, orienteering, padel, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, triathlon, beach volleyball, fencing, judo, Olympic wrestling, surfing, archery.

At CEU, you have an opportunity to compete against the best student athletes in the country, represent your university at a national level, participate in sport in a unique way, and enjoy true camaraderie.

Internal leagues

The internal leagues at CEU UCH in Valencia, Castellón and Elche are the perfect way to meet other students interested in sport, take part in competitive team sports and have a great time on campus. The leagues are organized every year across a variety of sports and categories and are open to students from all degrees and of all abilities.

These sports include:

  • Beach volleyball

Teams can comprise groups of friends, classmates or students from different degrees.

The top teams from each league can then go on to take part in the Rector's Cup, in which they play against the other top teams from the other CEU UCH campuses.

The Rector's Cup

The Rector's Cup is the final tournament for the two best teams on each campus (Valencia, Elche and Castellón) in the different internal leagues. This is a day dedicated to the sporting prowess of CEU UCH students, seeing the best teams of the year pay off against each other.

The venue for the Rector's Cup rotates between the three campuses every year, and the overall results determine which campus is declared the champion for the year.

New gym on the Valencia campus

Acuerdos

The Valencia campus has a fully equipped gym which all students can access free of charge. The gym is a place where you can train at your own pace and which provides convenience, comfort and variety.

  • Strength area with equipment to help students work on all muscle groups.
  • Outdoor area for functional training, free weights and outdoor work.
  • Cardio room with exercise bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers
  • Activities room for instructor-led sessions on strength training, cardio and mobility
  • Room with tatami mats for martial arts.

The Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, with the collaboration of the CEU Cardenal Herrera University and the other universities which are members of CADU (Comité Autonómico de Deporte Universitario), offers two kinds of prizes to recognize those university students who demonstrate academic and sporting excellence.

Prize for current CEU students

Uniesport

This prize is for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University who combine their studies with high-level sporting activity.

  • €2000 are available for this prize, which is distributed between the male and female categories.
  • Criteria: academic and sporting performance.

Prize for graduates

Administered by the Universitat Jaume I, which currently holds the CADU secretaryship, this prize is aimed at students who graduated in 2024/2025 at a Valencian university which is a member of CADU and who has demonstrated outstanding academic and sporting performance.

  • €4000 are available for this prize, which is distributed between the male and female categories.

We draw up a personalized action plan for elite athletes at CEU in order to ensure that they can both aspire to and achieve academic and sporting excellence.
