Marine Mammal Medicine: Specialize & Stand Out

This Higher Postgraduate Certificate (HPC) in Medicine for Marine Mammals aims to respond to the demand for veterinarians with an international outlook who specialize in this area: the physiology of cetaceans, pinnipeds and sirenians differs significantly from that of terrestrial animals, requiring specific care management. Furthermore, concern for the conservation of endangered aquatic species has created a need for experts who can diagnose and treat the diseases affecting them and contribute to research, rehabilitation and conservation.

The HPC in Medicine for Marine Mammals is an online postgraduate course, which allows students to access up-to-date and quality content from anywhere in the world. This makes it easier for students to combine their studies with employment, while also facilitating access to professional experts and specialized learning materials.

With this training in marine mammals, veterinarians can

  • Specialize in the physiology and pathology of cetaceans, pinnipeds and sirenians.
  • Gain the skills to diagnose and treat diseases in marine mammals.
  • Specialize in the medical care of marine mammals in aquariums and in their habitat.
  • Get involved in scientific research for the prevention of disease in cetaceans, pinnipeds and sirenians and study new emerging pathologies.

Learn with the Oceanogràfic in Valencia, Europe's largest aquarium

CEU UCH and the Oceanogràfic de València have come together to make this Higher Postgraduate Certificate in Medicine for Marine Mammals possible.

Oceanografic

The Oceanogràfic de Valencia is a leading international institution for tourism, research, conservation and outreach activities regarding marine biodiversity. Part of the City of Arts and Sciences complex, it opened in 2003 and it is Europe's largest aquarium. It is home to more than 27,000 animals of 700 species, many of them unique or little known, and it aims to represent all of the planet's main aquatic ecosystems.

The aquarium has a first-class veterinary clinic, laboratories and medical facilities, enabling it to run specialized training programmes. Thanks to this infrastructure and its high-quality staff, the Oceanogràfic is the ideal partner for teaching and practical training for the HPC in Medicine for Marine Mammals and its students.
