Architecture

A unique degree.
A global trip.

What makes us different?

1. What is ArchiTRIPture

ArchiTRIPture is about learning by travelling. It's a ground-breaking approach that makes visiting different places a learning experience: the book you'll need the most is your passport. Travelling broadens the mind and can gives you experiences that will change the way you look at the world and even the course your life may take.

Every year, we choose a different European city and all the courses for that year are taught with its cultural, social, climatic and geographical characteristics in mind. We also invite architects from this city to come to our School to lead an international workshop and explain their vision of the place in which they live and work. Afterwards, we visit the city itself to compare what has been learnt with the reality on the ground.

ArchiTRIPture is about giving our Architecture students a global vision of the profession and the ability to create buildings anywhere in the world. That's why, over the course of the degree, you will get to know a range of different types of architecture by travelling to:

10 cities, one every term.

And three expeditions to three continents, learning by traveling in:

  • Tokio
    Tokio

A unique, distant and different world with a great history and cultural tradition that is also reflected in its architecture.

  • Nueva York
    Nueva York

Industrialization, big cities and the golden age of skyscrapers, by the hand of one of the most renowned architects in history: Frank Lloyd Wright.

  • Dakar
    Dakar

Example of architecture from another continent through which we can understand other ways to inhabit and colonize the landscape with very different means than we are used to but equally valid and enriching.

2. The world in one architecture school

At our School of Architecture, there are students from more than thirty different countries, which is why the degree is taught in English. For the practical project development sessions, you can choose to work in English or Spanish, as these are one-to-one tutorials between the lecturer and the student. Ours is a different kind of School where things are done differently - if you want to be taught architecture the way it's always been done, stop reading now.

Still here? Then you should know that at our School, you'll find:

  • Small groups: 25 students, enabling us to provide a truly personalized education.
  • Multicultural classes, with students from many different countries, such as Sweden, Germany, Ukraine, Canada, Norway, Kuwait, etc. You'll be in Spain, but it will feel like you're in a British or American university.
  • Personalized teaching, via one-to-one tutorials in the project development courses.
  • Educational experiences outside the lecture halls: you'll complement your training with workshops, site visits, trips and also interaction with international architects.
  • International placements, enabling you to get the international professional experience you need. These placements take place at top Spanish and international studios.

3. Architecture with a conscience: sustainability as the starting point

Our approach to architectural training is to place sustainability at the centre. Our philosophy can be summed up with the three 3 Ps:

  • Prosperity: we see architecture as the engine for progress and the improvement of life through the enhancement of the urban environment – architecture as the driving force of the modern economy.
  • People: architecture has to be inspired by and made for real people. The human factor is the key when creating shapes and spaces.
  • Planet: architecture must create sustainable spaces which contribute to the improvement of the planet.

Our students get continuous advice and feedback on their designs and the development of their projects throughout their degree. Top architects and firms from Spain and across the world come to our School of Architecture to give special lectures and workshops, ensuring that our students receive up-to-date and well-rounded training in sustainability.

4. BIM experts

BIM - Building Information Modelling - is the process that all the main Spanish and international architecture studios use. Its ability to bring together creative and technical work on a building within the same software provides architecture students and professionals with complete control over their projects from start to finish.

Over the course of the degree, out students receive a total of 150 hours of BIM training, ensuring that they master all the parameters involved in the design process of an architectural project.

With an introductory 60-hour course on BIM in the second year, our students build on this every year subsequently, furthering their understanding of the process, gaining knowledge of its complexity and then applying what they have learnt to their projects. When they graduate, our students are true BIM experts, ensuring that they are ready for the professional reality faced by architects today and in the future.

5. Working in the ArchiTRIPture world

Real experience is the best source of information for an architect and that's why, in addition to our teaching, our students undertake placements at the best studios in Spain and across the world. Here are some examples of the studios we work with: Aires Mateus (Portugal), Müller Sigrist (Switzerland), Cruz y Ortiz and OAB Ferrater (Spain), McCullough-Mulvin (Ireland), Merom Architects (Sweden), and Mjölk (Czech Republic).

By studying with us, you'll have classmates from all over the world, learn from Spanish and international lecturers, participate in international workshops, visit sites under development, undertake stimulating placements, receive innovative and dynamic teaching and travel to see the architecture you study. This is the path to a career in tomorrow's architecture: global and dynamic, but also conscientious and sensitive to the cultural, geographical, economic and social environment.

In the end, a once-in-a-lifetime international immersive experience powered by technical knowledge and training trips.

Become an architect ready to develop your career at an international level with our innovative international studies in Architecture. From Valencia to the world, surrounded by a group of international students and 10 training trips around the planet.

The TFG involves students completing their own original research projects that include and expand upon on topics studied on the course and require students to use the skills and abilities they have acquired throughout their degree. The aim of the dissertation is to teach students how to look for, structure, organise and evaluate relevant information in order to help them develop their own opinions, including how to approach topics with a social, scientific, technological or ethical nature, and how to develop their own thoughts, criticisms and logical and creative judgments.

SICUE

The SICUE Program is an exchange scheme between Spanish universities and not a grant. It is overseen by Spain’s Ministry of Education and run by the Spain university rectors’ association, the Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas (CRUE)

This exchange scheme enables students to undertake part of their studies at another Spanish university, with guarantees that the time spent studying there and the results achieved will be recognized by the home university. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

This programme makes it possible for students to experience different teaching systems, including those concerning practical training, as well as the different social and cultural contexts of other regions and cities in Spain.

Application

February 2021: publication of the 2021/2022 call.

Requirements

Students can request an exchange with universities with which CEU UCH has a bilateral agreement, if they fulfil the following requirement:

Undergraduates: to have been awarded at least 45 credits and to be enrolled on at least 30 more.

The credit requirement must have been met on 30th September of this academic year, with the academic year prior to the SICUE mobility programme taking place being taken into account for compliance with requirements.

  • Master’s and doctoral programmes are not eligible for the SICUE programme.
  • The stay at the host university may be for half an academic year (3, 4, 5 or 6 months depending on the organization of the host university’s academic year) or a complete academic year.
  • A complete academic year entails enrolling on at least 45 credits and half an academic year entails a minimum of 24 credits.
  • Failed courses: on the condition that this does not contravene the home university’s internal regulations, and subject to the approval of the academic coordinator, the student may include in the learning agreement one, and only one, course that he or she has previously failed.
  • Once the student has arrived and made contact with the host university, the student must send back the arrival certificate.

For financial purposes, the student continues to be a CEU Cardenal Herrera student, meaning that he or she must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, and must continue to pay the tuition fees to the University. The student is exempt from paying fees at the host institution. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

The student must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, even though they are to undertake a stay at another university.

Students must put their choices in order of preference, choosing a maximum of three options.

PLEASE NOTE: The selected options for host universities and the order of preference may not be modified once the deadline for applications has passed, nor can any appeal be made in this respect.

The documents must be submitted in hard copy to:
