Spanish Pathway to Journalism

The experience in communication studies

What makes us different?

1. Bilingual education

If you would like to study both in English and in Spanish and enhance your future professional profile, you can study the first year of your degree in English and then complete the rest of your degree in Spanish. There are specific study paths to meet different needs:

  • For students who are not native Spanish speakers: the study programme for the first year is entirely in English, except for 15 ECTS credits (which these students will undertake in the second year). Instead of undertaking these 15 ECTS credits in the first year, you will undertake a Spanish language module to help prepare for you for the next stage of your studies in Spanish.
  • For native Spanish-speaking students: the study programme for the first year is entirely in English, except for 15 ECTS credits, which will be undertaken in Spanish.

2. Our expertise and our record

We have been providing high quality training in communication for more than 30 years and we have played a significant role in the industry's development. For more than 30 years, we have been providing cutting-edge training to communicators who are passionate about their profession. For more than 30 years, we have been at the forefront of the sector. That is why we know that the media universe has never been in better health. That is why we are as passionate as you are about the digital world.

3. Cutting-edge facilities

Give your creativity free rein and take full advantage every day of the cutting-edge facilities available to you as you put together your projects. At your disposal at the CEU UCH, you will have the Audiovisual Production and Multimedia Centre: TV studios, audiovisual production rooms, recording studios, radio studios, photography studios, darkrooms, specialized computer rooms and all the latest technology. You will have everything you need to make the world sit up and take notice of your creativity and initiative. Throughout your time studying with us, you will be able to call on all the resources you require to complete your training by participating in professional competitions and festivals for short film, cinema, photography, music, journalism or advertising.

4. A real-world focus

The world has changed, and with it, the way future professionals must be educated has also changed. That is why you will receive an education which is practical and applicable to the real world from day one, with a range of additional programmes and certificates which will help you to kick-start your career in the best way possible when you graduate.

  • While studying for your degree, you can also, free of charge, study for a Certificate in Sports Journalism (Título de Experto en Periodismo Deportivo), which will give you the best possible introduction to this specialized area of sports communication and journalism on the radio, on TV, in the press and on social networks.
  • You can also study for the Certificate in Political Marketing and Communication (Título de Experto en Marketing y Comunicación Política), which builds on the transferable skills you will learn on your degree programme and gives further insights into the one of the main areas of interest for journalism graduates. You can hone your skills in public speaking and political discourse by using our TV studio and our tools for political marketing and election campaign planning.
  • You could also study your Bachelor's Degree in Journalism alongside a Certificate in Fashion Communication (Título de Especialista en Comunicación de Moda), which seeks to produce skilled professionals trained in the use of new media and communication techniques. You will then be ready for work in this highly specialized and innovative field - one in which experts in marketing and communication are in ever greater demand. The programme for this certificate is taught by a range of prominent industry professionals and it includes a variety of external activities and visits to companies and major industry events.
  • Boost your Professional Skills: during your degree, you will need to use the IT tools now employed by industry professionals. Not only will you graduate knowing how to use them, but you will also have certificates as evidence of the skills you possess: a Certificate in Graphic Design and Web Design (202 hours: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Flash, Wix) and a Certificate in Audiovisual Editing (42 hours: Avid).

5. The international dimension

Every day at the CEU UCH you will be surrounded by students from more than 70 countries: in the globalized world we live in, that is a big advantage for you. Build relationships and synergies with people from across the world and broaden your horizons. As a CEU student, you will benefit from free Spanish classes on campus, as well as a large number of practical training programmes and international study visits (such as to the Agencia EFE news agency in Paris, Lisbon, Geneva, or Athens, or in European media organizations such as El Ibérico in London).

6. Dual degrees from a University specializing in them

If stories and communication are what you care about, regardless of their format or purpose, whether it constitutes news or something else, why fight the urge to explore all aspects of this? Do what you are passionate about without ruling anything out. The CEU Cardenal Herrera University has always been at the forefront of offering students such opportunities. We specialize in offering dual degrees and we make it easy for you: we arrange compatible timetables, customized study paths and, of course, you will not have to pay double the price. Check out the information below on dual degrees - our speciality.

Final Year Project

The TFG involves students completing their own original research projects that include and expand upon on topics studied on the course and require students to use the skills and abilities they have acquired throughout their degree. The aim of the dissertation is to teach students how to look for, structure, organise and evaluate relevant information in order to help them develop their own opinions, including how to approach topics with a social, scientific, technological or ethical nature, and how to develop their own thoughts, criticisms and logical and creative judgments.
